Knitting Basics: Casting On
November 13 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am$25
Casting on is the very first thing that you have to master when you learn to knit. Casting on creates the foundation into which you will knit the stitches that become your project. In this class we will cover the traditional “Long Tail Cast-on” which gives a non-stretchy foundation for your work. Then we will cover the “Twisted German” cast on. (This is sometimes called the German Twisted.) This gives a stretchy foundation that is appropriate for the cuffs of socks, hats or mittens; anything that requires a stretchy edge.
In this 1 – 1/2 hour class you will be shown how to do these two cast on methods. It’s important that you are very comfortable with this skill, so there will only be two types taught. These are the most commonly used methods. There will be ample time to practice and ask for help. The goal is for you to be able do it on your own by the end of the class.
(Please note that there will be a subsequent class where you can learn to knit and purl — the two basic knitting stitches. These will not be covered in this class.)
Class fees do not include materials or taxes
Pre-registration is required.
